Un mystérieux groupe terroriste d'extrême gauche répondant au nom de SLA (Symbionese Liberation Army) apparaît aux Etats-Unis dans les années 70 et multiplie les actions coup de poing pour montrer son désaccord envers le système capitaliste. En 1974, le groupe pousse plus en avant son objectif de guerilla urbaine en kidnappant Patty Hearst, fille du magnat de la presse William Randolph Hearst.
